Art Info: ‘Arbor Vitae’ is Latin for ‘tree of life’.
I have created a character that is half woman and half tree. I do think that woman and trees have a lot in common: their "roots" doesn't bind them to places or circumstances, they are both recognizable by the lines and circles of the body, both provide shelter and nourishment, they are often bend by storms, but are strong enough to pick themselves up and continue with dignity.
I love literature, especially poetry and normally write a poem on my paintings.
I started pursuing a career as an artist a year ago. The Arbor Vitae series can be described as ‘commercial art’. I am however in the process of starting a second series focusing on the female body and soul with ‘love and war’ as the centre point. Thus our love and struggles, as women, with ourselves and each other.
