Self-worth is something everybody struggles with and being gay makes it that much more difficult. The hate-speech and homophobic slurs are all part of the tools used to chip away at our already frail perception of ourselves.
Self-worth is what you are born with and differs from self-esteem. As one of the creations of the universe you are worthwhile and have value, which cannot be taken from you. You can’t lose it, but you can lose sight of it. You can forget your value. You can allow the negativity of others towards you to scar your self-worth image. They cannot touch your self-worth, only your perception of it and only if you allow them to.
A balanced self-worth and self-love go hand in hand – one cannot be without the other. Your relationship with yourself is the central template from which all others are formed. Loving yourself is a prerequisite to creating a successful and authentic union with another. The relationship you have with yourself is the central relationship in your life. At its core, loving yourself simply means believing in your own essential worthiness, self-worth. It is a knowing in your heart that you are a valuable link in the universal chain.
Loving yourself is the best way to learn how to love and it all starts with a balanced self-worth.
Here are a few attributes that can be helpful on the road to a more balanced self-worth:
01.Get Creative
Creating something is a very empowering feeling. You don’t have to be an artist to create. Paint, draw, or write even if you think you can’t. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Let your inner-child loose and have fun while creating.
02.Help others
You will feel uplifted and blessed. There’s no better way to receive than to give.
03.Exercise
I know, we don’t like it, but it’s so important. We no longer have to chase and catch our food, so we need to balance this lack of activity with exercise. When exercising, we take in much needed additional oxygen, a real needed fuel for the body. And no one can argue that you don’t feel absolutely great after you have exercised.
04.Watch what you say!
You manifest the energy that you place into the air through speech. Instead of negative posturing, say, believe and live more positively. Be aware of the power of speech. It's time to speak your joy!
05.Challenge Your Fears
All our fears are illusions and when challenged will fade away. You will be amazed at how easy it really is. The most difficult part is the decision to confront our fears. Once you have decided that, the battle is already won.
06.Re-claim your self-worth
It is there, it always will be – we just need to re-claim it. We must always remember that we are divine creatures. No one can hurt or scar us if we don’t allow it.
Being gay does not set us apart from anyone else. We are all equal. The President of a country is no better a being than the beggar on the street corner. His role and contribution might be considered more important according to society’s rules, but at the core, there is no difference. Both have self-worth. Some just loose sight of theirs.
