Homosexuality and religion, two age old enemies and yet we keep on trying to unite them in harmony. We were taught to believe that our religion is the corner stone of our existence. It is the one and only guide to live our lives. It is the divine word and thus will of our Saviour. People should believe, I agree. But find your own truth. Do not simply believe and accept what you are being told or taught. Your truth might be something completely different than another’s. Structured religion is man-made and thus has rules and restrictions put on us by man. They can argue all they like that their preferred book of scripture is of divine inspiration, but in the end it is all still managed, edited, controlled and inevitably manipulated by man. And as we all well know, man is fallible.
Why believe and live your life according to what others believe to be true? Find your own truth. Do you really believe that “God” hates homosexuals? Do you really believe that “God” could hate anyone? Discernment, what a wonderful word. It means your inner guidance. That which helps you to decide what is right or wrong for you. Read all you can, listen to all you can, but use your discernment to decide what you will take with you and what not. Why believe what is written in book A, but not book B? Who decides which is true and which is false? Is the Christians book of scripture true or the Jewish book of scripture, maybe the Catholics? Is any of it true? And what about other spiritual writings? How to decide…and this is, were discernment comes in. Beneath are a few guidelines that can help you discern when reading any spiritual material:
Is the information useful for everyone. Beware of information that is only useful for a few, or tells you that it's only for a special group or a sequestered number. It must be useful for ALL humanity, every single Human. This is an area of discernment allowing you to know you are reading the truth.
Is the information uplifting. The message should not be one of FEAR, not one that drags you down - not one that makes you want to take fearful action or hide - but an enabling message! It should inspire the reader.
Are you being asked to give up your free will. Never! For your free will is what your experience on Earth is all about. Free will! FREE CHOICE is what drives our future.
The next time you read a spiritual scripture, also consider this: Do you "recognize" the energy as familiar and feeling like "home?" Do you feel comfortable with it and does it ring true to your heart. If it doesn't and you can't identify with the information, move on.
We all want to believe, it is inherently human. The key is to believe in yourself.
Self-worth, we all have it, some just need to re-discover it within themselves. You know deep inside that you are much much more, that you are unique and special…let no book or teaching tell you otherwise.
